Clonazepam, also known as Klonopin, is a drug that controls and prevent seizures/fits. It falls into the drug category of antiepileptic’s or anticonvulsants. Clonazepam belongs to a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by reducing electrical activity in the brain and the nervous system and is also a useful medicine for panic attacks.
Clonazepam dosage depends on patient’s response to treatment and age. As per doctor’s you must take Clonazepam on a regular basis, at the same time each day.
Clonazepam helps in preventing and control seizures. Clonazepam may be prescribed as the sole treatment for seizure disorder, but more often it is used in combination with other anti-seizure drugs. It is most often used to treat Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, myoclonic and absence seizures, especially if other medications have failed to control seizures.
Dosage usually begins with a low dose. It slowly increases after every few days until the seizures come under control. Or, in some cases, it continues until the side effects prevent any further dosage. The maintenance dosage for each patient is customized. It depends on the patient’s response.
