Food poisoning is an illness caused by eating contaminated food. Luckily, most cases aren’t serious and don’t need medical intervention. In some cases, medical treatment is necessary to treat the symptoms. The main culprits of food poisoning are bacteria such as salmonella or E. coli. Food poisoning symptoms can appear a few hours after eating up to a few weeks.

1. Nausea

Nausea is often one of the first symptoms people with food poisoning will experience. It’s also one of the more severe symptoms, as it can cause a constant feeling of needing to vomit. After consuming something unsuitable, you might start to feel dizzy and may want to sit down. Next, comes the feeling of nausea – an overpowering need to expel the contents of the stomach. Sometimes nausea will appear a few minutes after eating, but in other cases, it may appear a few hours after consuming food. To ease the symptoms, try consuming clear liquids such as water or tea. Afterward, you can start eating solids such as crackers or stale bread. Don’t consume alcohol if you feel nauseous.
