Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer. This cancer develops in the layer of tissue that covers many internal organs in the body. This thin layer of tissue is called the mesothelium. Usually, this cancer is found in the lining of the lungs and the chest wall. This location of the cancer is related to asbestos exposure as more than 80% of cases are caused by asbestos exposure or inhalation. It can also take its time to make itself known with cases of those who have been exposed to asbestos, not showing symptoms from 20-50 years later. This disease can also be found in the lining of the abdomen, and, although rarely, around the sac that surrounds the heart.

Symptoms can be very similar to other diseases, such as trouble breathing and chest pain, nausea and weight loss, Anemia and a build up of fluid in the lungs as well. But you will need a proper examination and an x-ray to see exactly where the Mesothelioma is located.

After commercial use of asbestos the disease became much more common and today, approximately 3000 people per year are diagnosed in the United States, and there is no known cure.
