Constipation is characterized by difficulty in having a bowel movement. It may be difficult to pass or infrequent. Medically, if you have less than three bowel movements per week, you are considered constipated. (Severe constipation is when you have less than one per week.) People can become constipated for several reasons like taking prescriptions or supplements. Consuming certain foods and drinks can also lead to symptoms of constipation.

If you are suffering from constipation, you can limit these 15 foods and drinks. Regulating them within your diet may help prevent constipation in the future, too.

1. Bananas

Make sure you eat bananas that are yellow; otherwise, you might suffer from symptoms of constipation. Under-ripe, green bananas are full of starch, which is hard for the body to digest. Infants and toddlers can also become constipated by snacking on too many bananas. Moderation is key. If you purchase bananas a little green so they don’t spoil before you can eat them all, that’s okay. Just make sure they are ripe when you’re ready to peel one.
