2. Pitting and Non-Pitting Edema
If you push on the swollen skin and a pit-like indent remains after letting go, then you have pitting edema. You may have to press for several seconds to notice the dimple, but in other cases, it may be more obvious. Tissues that bounce back right away to its normal shape is non-pitting edema. If your skin is pitting, you should make an appointment with your doctor. This symptom might help your doctor diagnose the underlying cause of the swelling.
